This Semester the GBM e.V. initiated a series of lectures. This was done in order to give members insights into the business world. Three guest lecturers were invited from the fields of Industry, banks and the independent financial advisory.
Factory tour through MAN Diesel & Turbo SE
MAN Diesel & Turbo SE, based in Augsburg, Germany, is the world’s leading provider of large-bore diesel engines and turbomachinery for marine and stationary applications. It designs two-stroke and four-stroke engines that are manufactured both by the company and by its licensees. The product range is rounded off by turbochargers, propellers, gas engines and chemical reactors.
MAN Diesel & Turbo’s range of goods includes complete marine propulsion systems, turbomachinery units for the oil & gas as well as the process industries and complete power plant solutions. Customers receive worldwide after-sales services marketed under the MAN PrimeServ brand. The company employs around 15,000 staff at more than 100 international sites, primarily in Germany, Denmark, France, Switzerland, the Czech Republic, India and China. MAN Diesel & Turbo is a company in the Power Engineering business area of MAN SE.
The GBM e.V. invited Lex Nijsen, head of four stroke engines, to give a lecture on MAN Diesel & Turbo SE. He focused on the internationality of the Company and the related potential for the GBM students.
In addition to this lecture there was the possibility to go on a tour through the factory in Augsburg. On this tour the students were able to watch how an engine was put together. The tour took two hours and gave great insights into the assembly of the engines.

Insight into the Banking industry
The Augsburger Aktienbank AG is a middleclass Bank based in Augsburg and is one of the oldest direct banks in Germany. The core business of the Bank is the Fond administration (Investment Fund Portfolio Management and settlement) for trustees and financial service providers.
With more than 300 connected sales organizations and a managed deposit volume of EUR 12,5 billion (3/2017), the Augsburger Aktienbank is part of the biggest securities banks in Bavaria. The number of customers has increased to over 400.000 in the last years.
The CEO of this traditional bank, Mr. Lothar Behrens, also gave a lecture to discuss the opportunities and risks of this particular industry. This event was held under the motto “Regulation and Digitalization – Banking Industry in Transition”.
One of the main points of the subsequent discussion were different developments in the banking sector over the last couple of years. The discussion about FinTec Companies encouraged many of the participants to further observe this industry.
